WOW!

What a GREAT Trip.  Good people, good jeeps, great trail.  We did it in record time this year and realy didn't push.  No major breakdowns made for a great trip.  My issue with the alternator was realy the only semi serious issue of the entire trip.  It's a busy time of year so I will get the photos posted up as quick as I can.

For those who missed it again this year toooooo bad for you.

As a heads up it looks like a bunch of us are going to give this trail a try in the fall.  See if we can get a little more even weather (not so hot in day cold in night water etc.)

More detail on that to follow

thanks to everyone for making it a great time

Sound's like most if not everyone is leaving sometime on Wed.  Post up folks so people can tag along...

Get yourself to Hanskville.
(I prefer to use I-70 east because it's an easier pull with a trailer but it is about 25 miles further, faster though)

Take SR-95 South out of Hanskville toward Blanding

at N37 33.748 W110 01.127 turn right off of SR-95 onto SR 263.  You will be going South West

At N37 25.267 W110 30.328 turn left off of SR 263, you will be going South East on a dirt road

From here the road is marked "Hole in the Rock Trail"

At N37 24.174 W110 28.916 make right turn you will be going back South West.  Follow this untill you come to the Half Track at N37 22.528 W110 32.360

This will be the un load Base Camp.  Be carefull driving out on the rock there are a lot of nails on the rock so put a spotter out.

If everyone makes it down Wed night we can easily put the Rincon Trail back in the to do list for this year.

See you all there

Houndman, appreciate the trailer, but the only thing I have to pull it with is my passengers, I don't think I can sell them on the idea lol. Im running 37x12.5x15 5x4.5 bolt pattern. Did I hear correctly that a few rigs are leaving weds night? If so I would like to follow you guys down when you leave.

ok guys - here we go

Weather service is predicting exactly 0% chance of rain wha hoo!

Should be a touch toasty during the day but still decent sleeping weather at night......

I will post GPS coordinates on this site tonight.  Remember it's a leave EARLY on thur, when we hit the half track it will be running!  I figure without any breakdowns etc we should be able to make it to skull flat or marble hill by camping time.

Sounds like were going to have a great bunch.  Looking forward to the trip.

Touched by a Nun - have a trailer you can use, but my big one already has 2 rigs on it, don't know if this helps or not.  I will make an inquiry on a tire, but would probably be a borrow, what rim / bolt pattern do you need?

Check back tonight for driving instructions

Hey sounds like my rig will be ready to go in time. Couple of questions though.... First, Is anyone possibly taking down a trailer that would have room for another rig on it? I would compensate for the gas use and what not, Im sure im not gonna have luck on this one, but figured it doesn't hurt to ask. Second, Does anyone have a 37 inch tire kickin around that I could borrow as a spare, I'll even go as far as buying it. Tongue  I just don't think my little 28" tire is gonna make a good spare anymore... Any help would be great. Thanks everyone, see you guys next week!

Wow busy spring!
Some of the guys did a local ride / shake on the 15th.  I had to play carpenter so didn't get there...

We took the heep out this past weekend and went to one of my favorite spots.  We went down the Wikiup trail met up with some folks from Kentuky (drivning a rubi) spending a month in Utah hitting all the trails they can find.  Based out of Green river and according to them having a great time.  We went over fix it pass and then down coal wash to the devils race track, up the race track to the frontage road and back to the truck.  What a pleasent ride.  No preasure just a nice easy ride.

WAY TO MANY ATV RIDERS!  Now Im not much of an environmentalist sorta idiot, but after stopping no less than 20 times going up the race track to let these guys ride past us I couldn't help notice something.  Invariably as they would pass us they would do all they could to avoid the obsticle in the trail.  Some would go as far as driving out in the trees to make a new trail around the rock or bump in the trail.  HEY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CROSS THE OBSTICLES DON'T RIDE THE TRAIL!!!!!!!!!  That's what makes the trail what it is and it's no wonder the anti multi use people are screaming.  Dam go someplace else if you don't like the bumps, quit make new trails and ruining it for those of us who view the road as the challenge.
Sorry just had to get that off my chest, but on Sat I saw no less that 20 new paths around this or that obsticle created and that's not what it's about.

All in all it was a pleasent trip.  I have developed some kind of a rattle in the T-Case that needs to be addressed before HITR and so I will be spending this coming sat in the shop trying to figure this one out.

By the way I think the word has pretty much gotten out to everyone that I know is going that we have shortened the trip by one day.  Leaving on Thur and probably going to skip the Rincon trail (that will be a decision made on the trail) but leaving early Thur

OK, here's the pre-trip schedule....

Saturday May 1st,

Leave salina at 0900 hrs - travel to exit 131 on I70

Park on the North side of the freeway...  If we end up with more than 4 trailers we may need to move a little but will be within sight

Down past the wikiup then up over fix it pass

Down Coal wash to the bottom of the Devils Race Track

Up the Race Track and then back to parking lot at exit 131.

should be a good day, fix it pass can be interesting, and the race track is just plain a good time.

Look forward to a Great Day

Hey thinking of a pre-trip to kind of work out the bugs from the winter of tinkering........

Looking at the first or second sat in May, thinking of one of 2 possible day trips

down the eva connover up north coal wash and then up the devils race track

or

down the devils race track up the wash accros fix it pass then up past the wikiup

Neither is a particularly challenging ride just a fun way to flesh out the cobwebs and get those machines warmed up for the up and coming.

Post up if you would be interested, hate to take the time off work if it's going to be a bust.

Man, I've wanted to go on this trip for the last 3 years. I thought this was going to be the one, but I've got a conflict on 6/3... tickets to see the greatest band in the world in concert.

What would you guys do? Save HITR until next year and go to the concert? I did see the same concert in Arizona last October because I didn't think they were coming to Salt Lake, so I'm thinking I should sell my tickets, make ~$100 on them, and use that toward fixing my rig after HITR  Grin

Ok here are the final dates

Wednesday June 2nd, Travel to Base camp at the halftrack - those who arrive early enough will go into the fort and as far into Lake Canyon as the trail will allow.  (dumped my jeep in a BIG sand hole last year tore off one of the fenders, COOL)

Thursday June 3rd, Travel to bottom of rincon and back to rim - bring a swim suite (Lake Powell is cold but it's a bath)

Friday June 4th, Travel to EOT / HIR and back to base of gray messa - spend some time playing at the top of the chute and some of the other obsticals like the steep s0b

Saturday June 5th, back to half track - two years ago we ran into heards of wild horses on the way in and out

Sunday June 6th, travel home Cry

Should be an excellent year.  Last year we ran the trail in 2 days and it works out ok but with a few breakdowns and unexpected delays we were on the trail untill midnight and it stopped being fun.  At this point we are going to plan on 2 nights on the trail (always subject to change) but I would like to highly encorage everyone to make the effort to get the days and lets enjoy the trip.  this makes it so we can camp early in the afternoon and have some time to socialize and just enjoy the scenery instead of pushing so hard to get there and back.
will be video documenting the entire trail this year with a new onboard camera system, looking forward to the ride.

Ok, been some people express concern over the timing of the days that were posted....

The sugestion that is being made is that we push back 1 week to Wed June 2nd, through Sun June 6th 2010.

This works better for me but I don't want to be the only one to chime in on the issue......  Several folks have said that they have conflicts with the memorial day weekend (class reunions, family reuinions etc.) and have asked that we push back a week.  Weather should be ok, maybe a tad warm but ok, so again works better for me but lets hear how everyone feels about it.

Post up, e-mail me call something because we need to lock this in in the next few weeks.

thanks
