Some local Jeep Trails.
Day rides from Gunnison. Some of my favorites.
As trails go, could be not passable due to washout , weather
conditions, or deep snow.
Most of these trails are not difficult. The scenery and
wildlife can be interesting.
North Twist. Easy - Moderate
Mellors canyon to Antelope Valley, North of Gunnison.
Approx. 15 mile loop, elevation approx 6,000’ loose terrain,
Winding trail, often in wash bottoms. Wildlife, Deer, small
game.
Tarr Canyon. Easy – Moderate
Tarr Canyon to Japs valley return via Swens Canyon. East of
Gunnison.
Approx. 18 mile loop, elevation to 7,000’ loose rocky trail
at times.
Forebush Cove, Gnarly - Moderate
East of Sterling.
Sterling to Forebush Cove, to Upper Ranch, to Kipper Snack
Pass,
Return via 12 mile canyon. Approx. 30 miles, elevation to
9,500’.
Six Mile. Moderate.
East of Sterling.
Sterling to 6 mile Shingle mill trail, Blue Meadows, return
via 12 mile.
Approx 40 miles loop, elevation to 10,000’.
Manti Sheep Trail,
Steep, Moderate
East of Manti.
Manti sheep trail to Skyline Drive, return via 12 mile.
Approx 55 mile loop, elevation to 10,800’ Alpine.
Middle Mountain, Moderate
East of Mayfield. Approx 30 miles, elevation to 8,700’.
12 mile canyon, to Deep lake road, to Middle Mt, return
same.
Fit in the Aspen Grove trail too. Easy.
White Mountain. Moderate
East of Mayfield, Beaver Creek to White Mt. Black fork
trail, return on Blue lake
Jeep trail to Skyline drive, back to Mayfield. Approx 70
miles. Elevations to 10.600’.
Link Canyon, (Lynx or Wildcat) Easy.
East of Mayfield. Very scenic and spooky, ascend 12 Mile or
Beaver Creek to Muddy,
To the Wildcat to Emery. Return via HWY 10 –I70.
Over 120 miles, elevations to 10,000’.
South Twist. Easy.
East of Redmond, Axtell reservoir to Salina Canyon. A few
side trails to explorer. 40 miles, elevation to 7,000’
